Our way of working in design and fashion is very down to earth. We do pretty much everything by ourselves from sketching designs to selecting, cutting and finally sewing the materials into clothes. The use of recycled materials keeps us close to every step in the production chain, which is in the core of our sustainable clothing philosophy. We aim to have an open design process, and are always happy to tell you more about the way we work.

One of TAUKO's most popular designs, a hoodie called Karata, was tailored for one of our customers by reusing his old favorite shirt to add details. His shirt was already too worn out to be used as such, but its softness and memories were too precious to waste. Carefully inspecting the shirt, we selected parts that could be used in the hood and the pockets. In the end, we still had a tiny bit of the shirt left to also make a button for the hoodie.

TAUKO Kruna is situated in a basement in the heart of Helsinki. We work and sell the collections in this cosy underground labyrinth. By keeping it local and personal, the experience of buying clothes becomes more complete and meaningful: Clothes are not taken as disposable, but as something valuable and sustainable. We warmly welcome you to get to know our studio shop and find the designs that suit you best.

As part of their maintenance services, hospitals in the Helsinki area regularly sort out textiles that can no longer be used in health care. Due to minor damage in the fabric or changes in collections, plenty of textiles are waste for the hospitals. TAUKO takes this waste and gives it a new life as raw material for high-quality clothes of nice softness and durability. The health care colors also change into bright yellow, green and turquoise as the fabrics are dyed in the small Finnish town Kyröskoski

Tattarisuo is an industrial area in the northeastern part of Helsinki, where many used and wrecked cars make their last journey. There, in the greasy garages, car parts that can still be retailed are separated by dismantlers. TAUKO has been lucky to find one that sells us safety belts, which we reuse to add a bit of edge and curious detail to our designs. Over the years, we have become experts on different belt colors and keep looking for the rare red and green ones.

Mollat dolls are a collaboration with Aino Salmela that started with the idea of having a visually interesting showcase in a display window. Aino created the charismatic faces of the human sized rag dolls, while TAUKO provided the bodies and the clothes.
